Please include me on your mailing list for any anniversary events. Loretto College was my first teaching job, for one year, as a History and Geography teacher in 1989-90 and it was a very memorable year.

I think Ann Manual will be remembered by many of us as someone who treated us with respect, made us feel worthwhile and truly understood how to deal with teenage girls. Discipline for silly errors of judgement was firm but always handled with a sense of humour. How lucky we are to have experienced her leadership. She was and is a very special lady. She attends many of our graduating class reunions and I hope that she will make it to this reunion as well.

I see on this website that Ann Manual read at the service and attended the event. I see that she is called Ann Manual, not Sr. Ann Manual. Curious about this -- if, when, & why she left the sisters of Loretto.

My book, "The Ladies of Loretto" , a humorous, semi-fictional memoir of my 4 years at the Brunswick location will be available by then, and through my website months before. I so hope that some of my classmates from 1960 - 1965 will be in attendance at the event. I also have a Facebook page under "Loretto College School Brunswick". Hope some of you signing this guestbook will drop by and "like" our page there.

Elaine (Crowley) McLean: I wonder if you can clear something up in my old memory. I was in Grade 9 in 1960. I remember a "Mother Elaine" who taught Latin...at least I believe it was "mother". Tall, slender, walked very quickly up and down the aisles of the classroom. In my old mind's eye, she was older. But someone in my Facebook group at http://facebook.com/groups/lorettobrunswick has mentioned a "Sister Elaine" who taught Latin around that time. She apparently left later and got married. Is this you? Were there two nuns, one old, one young who taught Latin in the 60's? Or are you one and the same and I'm just too old and have things messed up? Sure hope you or someone can answer before my book, "The Ladies of Loretto" goes to print as this "Mother Elaine" is mentioned in my book LOL. Thanks.

No, I am not Mother/Sister Elaine. I was only at LCS for 2 yrs in 1964/65 and taught Ph. Ed, Math, Hist. That yr LCS hosted the All Loretto Track & Field Meet which we won. Remember Mother Noel and the Baseball Team or Miss Dunn or Miss Shea. All the same vintage.

Was Mother Elaine our Grade 9 Latin teacher who made me watch the squirrels when I got an incorrect answer??????? 1/16/2016 08:58:06 pm
Mother Elaine taught Latin and was home room teacher of 9A when I started in 1959, and as far as I know she never left the sisters. However Sister Gabriel Lalement did leave the sisters and married sometime in the later sixties and or early seventies. I have some photos of some sisters if you are interested for your book. I too graduated in 67 and was also one of the lucky ones who thrived under the guidance of Sister Ann Manual( principal), Mrs. Culligan who inspired me with her gentle ways and love of history, and several other dedicated teachers. The fact that so many women from our class are still friends after all these years is proof that our education went far beyond simply an appreciation of academics. Sept. 12th is eagerly anticipated.

What a great read, all the names and memories from the past. I taught Phys Ed and French from '64 - '70, (Miss Aust, then became Mrs. O'Brien in '68). Have enjoyed speaking wth many of you over the years and hope to be at the reunion on May 14 to see you all again.

What a delight it will be to see you Bonnie. There are quite a few of us from my graduating class (67) who will be attending this reunion. It would be a delight to see you there.

I spent 5 years 1952-57 at LCS on Brunswick. I will be at the Mass & Reception & hope more from my era will be there. We will have a lot of "catching up" to do.

Just wondering if anyone from the 1968 graduating class is planning to go to the 100th Anniversary. I worked on the first yearbook published Spring 1967. I have fond memories of Sister Elaine teaching Latin, Mother Henriette, Miss Dunn. How excited we girls were when we heard the first male teacher would be coming to our school in the Fall of '65(?) ! Imagine our disappointment when it turned out to be a lovely

Weren't you heavily into table tennis at that time? I only went to Loretto for one year (grade 9) so no one would remember me, but I'm pretty this is you (same first name as me) - you played table tennis superbly.

I first attended Brunswick in Grade 11 in September 1963. I was a country bumpkin from the hamlet of Wildfield (Toronto Gore). It was a culture shock to live and board with a family in the big city of Toronto. Mother Wilfreda (Principal) and Mrs. Cunningham (History teacher) used to give me ‘Greyhound Bus’ money to go home on some weekends. In June of 1966, I was ‘exempted’ from writing the Grade 13 Departmental Exams because during our study week I broke the pointer finger on my writing hand and had to wear a plaster cast which encompassed almost my whole hand. Mother Wilfreda averaged my marks from previous terms and I went on to Lakeshore Teachers College.

Hi Davileen. I remember your name and I think you became friends with some of my class, 2 years ahead of you, through sports? We were in Grade 13 when you arrived and somehow or other I remember you playing basketball. I was on the senior team with Margaret Murray and Harriet Stokes and Kathleen Heffron. Does that ring a bell at all?

That isn't my primary website as most already know. But it is the page I set up on Facebook for alumni 1960-1965 of Loretto Brunswick. I am so hoping to see many of you again. I had the pleasure of reuniting with several of you, Lina Larusso, Pam Stoksek, Lorraine Travers, Joan Anne Keating, Augusta Caldana and others at the launch for my book, "The Ladies of Loretto" and later at the 50-year reunion hosted by Lorraine. I was stoked to see a smiling, lovely Sister Deirdre (now Angela) at that event. So hope to see other former classmates on Saturday, May 14th. And yes, I will have copies of my book with me for anyone who doesn't yet have a copy. Otherwise, they are available from my website at http://www.vigaboland.com See you on Saturday!

I taught Physical and Health Education and Law at Loretto. I also coached the girl's basketball and volleyball teams. A very inspiring school. I thoroughly enjoyed teaching at Loretto and miss the staff and students. Congratulations Loretto College!

I had an absolutely wonderful time yesterday .Seeing so many of my classmates. The celebration was very enjoyable . Thank you to all . As I was leaving , I told a group of young students who were sitting at a table 'When you pick the right school to attend , you will still be happy with your choice 50 years later '.

Attended from 1969-1974. So many fond memories that remain very much alive to this day. Had some great teachers, especially Sister Helen and Sister Sheila who taught English classes. They helped me to find my voice through writing, for which I remain truly grateful. Thank you both for summoning the "inner writer" in me, that just required a bit of coaching and coaxing. "Writing is the painting of the voice" - Voltaire - rings especially true for me.

I'm so sorry I missed the reunion. I really planned to attend but somehow got the date incorrect. Since I no longer live in the Toronto area I would have had to make prior arrangements. I thought it had been postponed to a much later date and just now checked :)
